When should treatment with hyaluronic acid not be performed, what are the contraindications?
Treatment with a hyaluronan filler (this includes lip correction with hyaluronic acid) should be avoided if one of the following points applies:
- Persons under 18 years of age
- Pregnancy
- Breastfeeding
- Known allergy to hyaluronic acid
- Chemotherapy within the last 12 months
- Taking blood clotting agents (e.g. aspirin, ibuprofen, diclofenac)
- Acute infectious diseases (e.g. flu, herpes)
- Autoimmune disease
- Known wound healing disorders, tendency to hypertrophic scarring
- Increased bleeding tendency and blood diseases
